COVID 19 or the novel Corona Virus Disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 has created many challenges in our healthcare system. The pandemic has forced healthcare professionals to research and develops new clinical management protocols and adjust to the possible impact of the pandemic on clinical practices. The objective of the current review is to provide information about the impact of COVID 19 on pediatric surgery, pediatric appendicitis, guidelines on workflow pathways, and the potential of current translational research. Iacona et al. outlined the guidelines for the workflow pathway including a step-by-step- approach to operating on COVID 19 positive patients. The reviewed guidelines were successful during the pandemic and can be adapted in pediatric surgery beyond the pandemic.

While Saalabian et al. outlined comprehensive data on the presentation and management of pediatric appendicitis. Though the onset of the symptoms was late in the pandemic time, the outcome was comparable to the pre-pandemic results. COVID 19 testing was determined to be a mandatory step to differentiate the symptoms and inflammatory response related to COVID 19 and appendicitis to avoid unnecessary surgical procedures. Zani- Ruttenstock et al. provided their views on the accelerated trend of already existing virtual education and online interaction. As it is said the Internet has made the world a global village, and remote access has ensured easily accessible education irrespective of time and space. The remote platforms have contributed to the connection, and training of all healthcare professionals with a definite place in the future world.
